How We Operate

We initiate, plan and organise our own branch fundraising events to generate awareness of Parkinson’s in our local community. This offers opportunities to raise money that funds all of the branch activities for our members. Should we generate a surplus in one full year (more than is needed to operate), then we donate that surplus directly to Parkinson’s UK funded research projects.
This allows us to achieve our aims of helping people with Parkinson’s in our area to live well with their condition but also allows us to be equally supportive of Parkinson’s UK’s work to fund research projects to find a cure or improvements.
Our branch committee whittle down the list of the ~40 active research projects, then ask all branch members to vote on which is the most appropriate. We send our surplus amount on 1st September every year to the chosen project(s). After this we invite a representative from the research project(s) to come talk to us about their work. In that way we feel involved and informed which completes the cycle for us. It is very rewarding work.

This is a picture of our Chair, Kevin Young presenting a cheque for a significant £15,000 (from our 2024 fundraising work) to Caroline Rassell, CEO of Parkinson’s UK. Caroline was invited to a photoshoot for this and to also take part in our walking football event, in which she played and thoroughly enjoyed.

Here are the 2 research projects we supported with the £15,000.

£11,250 to project G-2404 – Understanding the different causes of Parkinson’s dementia

£3,750 to project F-2201 – Growing brain cells to test new therapies.
(Previous donations have been sent to the Parkinson’s Brain Bank project in London).

GIFT AID DONATION INSTRUCTIONS:

The easiest way is to make a donation online via the Parkinson’s UK website – making sure to tick the gift aid declaration box on the donation form. We’ll just need to know when the donation has been made, so that we can then manually link the gift to the branch (unfortunately, there isn’t a way to do this online).
Alternatively we have a standalone online gift aid form that can be completed here: https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/giftaidform and then a donation can be made after, whether it’s by cheque, BACS, etc and then we can link to donation to the supporter’s account and claim the gift aid, and also ensure the money goes to our branch.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any further queries about this.

YOU MAY ALSO MAKE A DONATION DIRECT TO OUR BRANCH ACCOUNT BY BANK TRANSFER:

Barclay’s Business account name:  (needs to be typed in exactly as below)
PARKINSONS DISEASE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED KINGDOM
sort code: 20-00-00  a/c 13890260

Donations can also be made by testamentary dispositions (through personal wills) and in-memoriam donations.

Please contact Branch Chairman Kevin Young for information regarding all donations.

Thank you.
