How We Operate
We initiate, plan and organise our own branch fundraising events to generate awareness of Parkinson’s in our local community. This offers opportunities to raise money that funds all of the branch activities for our members. Should we generate a surplus in one full year (more than is needed to operate), then we donate that surplus directly to Parkinson’s UK funded research projects.
This allows us to achieve our aims of helping people with Parkinson’s in our area to live well with their condition but also allows us to be equally supportive of Parkinson’s UK’s work to fund research projects to find a cure or improvements.
Our branch committee whittle down the list of the ~40 active research projects, then ask all branch members to vote on which is the most appropriate. We send our surplus amount on 1st September every year to the chosen project(s). After this we invite a representative from the research project(s) to come talk to us about their work. In that way we feel involved and informed which completes the cycle for us. It is very rewarding work.

This is a picture of our Chair, Kevin Young presenting a cheque for a significant £15,000 (from our 2024 fundraising work) to Caroline Rassell, CEO of Parkinson’s UK. Caroline was invited to a photoshoot for this and to also take part in our walking football event, in which she played and thoroughly enjoyed.
